A woman is shouting out her protest against the disputed presidential election. This picture received the award for the best press photo of the year 2009. It was taken by the Italian free lance photojournalist Pietro Masturzo. All in all, 63 photographers from 23 countries were awarded at the World Press Photo Award.
More than 101,000 photos by 5847 photographers from 128 countries were submitted. The majority of the awards – three first ranks each – were received by the news agency Associated Press and the French photo agency Agence Vu.
