The spokesman of reformist former Iranian president Khatami has been sentenced to six years in prison – for a flimsy charge.

Abdullah Ramezanzadeh, who had been arrested in the course of the protests against the re-election of president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, was convicted on charges of acting against national security. This was reported by Iranian news agency Fars on Thursday, quoting from the decision the Revolutionary Court had made the day before.
Ramezanszdeh is considered to be one of the leading reformist activists of the country. He had always rejected allegations of having planned an overthrow.

Only one month ago, the deputy of former Iranian president Mohammad Khatami, Mohammad Ali Abtahi, as the so far highest ranking member of the opposition had also been sentenced to a six year prison term by the same court. All in all, more than 100 dissidents, who accuse the regime of electoral fraud, are still imprisoned in Iran.
