Almost 1 year ago, the Iranian blogger Hossein Derakhshan, who by his screen name “Hoder” became known as the “father” of the blogger scene in Iran, was arrested in Tehran. Since then, almost no news about the situation of Derakhshan, a Canadian citizen with Iranian passport, have reached the public. Now, the “New York Times” in their blog “The Lede” referred to a report published by the organization “Human Rights Activists in Iran”. According to this report, “Hoder” apparently had to endure 8 months of solitary confinement in the notorious Evin prison. The report mentions abuse by beatings and cold showers, apparently he was also forced to make confessions of unspecified content. Meanwhile, it seems that “Hoder” has been transferred to another prison, and remains in detention without trials on the mere basis of repeatedly prolonged warrants. His family was allowed to visit him only twice, each time for a couple of minutes only. Last Wednesday, Derakhshan’s father Hassan on the reformist website Salam News published an open letter to Iran’s Chief of Judiciary Ayatollah Larijani, calling for more information and a “fair treatment” of his son.
